Best Halloween Date Night Ever: Pairing Snacks and Scary Movies

Images courtesy of Warner Bros., Buena Vista Pictures, Legendary Entertainment, Universal Pictures

Valentine’s Day? No thanks… unless the heart has been ripped from a live chest. If you were lucky enough to find a soulmate who also lives and dies for horror films (and scary movie night snacks, duh), Halloween is the most romantic night of the year. So turn off all the lights on your porch and get ready to Netflix and thrill – we’ve paired classic scary movies with small-batch snacks, just in time for a freaky Friday night with your boo!

Warning: these 4 scary movie night snack combos aren’t for the faint of heart, but will make yours flutter…

The Sixth Sense (1999) + Spooky S’mores

The Sixth Sense haunts us to this day. That scene where Haley Joel Osment realizes Bruce Willis is a ghost?! Dead. So keep that spooky ghost theme going with these soft and gooey ghost marshmallows... Featuring hints of Tahitian vanilla, these homemade treats by Zoe’s Chocolate Co. are good enough to kill in one sitting. Sandwiched between two crunchy and delicious honey graham crackers, whoever gets their hands on these will totally s’cream. Cole Sear sees dead people, we see these s’mores in your future.

Trick ‘r Treat (2009) + Tricks ’n’ Treats

Trick or treat, trick or treat, we’ll give you something good to eat! If you’re like us, the five tales of terror in Trick ‘r Treat made you never want to go outside on Halloween night again. Haunted jack-o-lanterns? That terrifying kid with the burlap sack over his head? NOPE. Thankfully, with this curated bag of spookilicious Halloween goodies, you can stay under the covers and scream from the safety of your sofa. With your scary movie-loving partner, of course. The (not haunted) box is packed with the best candy to come across our tasting table this fall, like luscious chocolate ghost pops, glittering gold-dusted dark chocolate skulls and more… Anna Paquin not included.

The Cabin in the Woods (2012) + Golden Gianduja Skulls

Biting into these chocolate skulls is like watching this classic zombie thriller movie – you *think* you know what’s about to happen, but you really, really don’t. The mini skulls made by the brilliant chocolatiers of FIKA are filled with a surprising hazelnut-macadamia-almond mix that’ll make you jump, and they’re coated in a sparkly edible gold dust that’s total zombie bait. We highly recommend going full “risen from the dead” and chomping into them face first.

Frankenstein (1931) + The Green Box

This Halloween (October 31, 2018), commemorates the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Not only is Frankenstein one of the most famous stories ever written, but it was written by a woman, who, two hundred years ago, set out to write a ghost story and straight up created the science fiction genre. Seriously badass! This year, fans worldwide will be celebrating Frankenstein’s anniversary by dressing up in Frankenstein costumes, hosting book parties, and watching the 1931 film starring Colin Clive (Dr. Frankenstein), Dwight Frye (Frankenstein’s loyal misshapen assistant, Fritz), and Boris Karloff (Frankenstein’s monster). But what would this monster mash be without appropriately themed snacks?! In honor of the lovable, tormented creature, go full Frankenstein green with The Green Box. Everything in it will match your sickly face paint… minus the screws and stitches.

Happy Halloween to you and yours! Most romantic scary movie date night ever.
