11 Ways to Use Caramel Sauce Beyond Ice Cream

Awesome sauce: that’s what we call Coop’s Salted Caramel Sauce at Mouth HQ. Gooey, rich, creamy, salty caramel sauce. It’s the most effortless way to make any scoop of vanilla less, well, vanilla and to make any night in feel a little less yes-I’m-staying-in-again and a little more Yes! I’m staying in again!

But this salted caramel sauce is not just for ice cream, no no no. Aside from eating it by the spoonful (come on, you’ve done it, too), this ultra-delicious buttery jar of ooey-gooey is making its way all over our plates…and we’re licking up every last drop.

Here are 11 ways to inspire you to hit the (caramel) sauce:

  1. Sandwiched between two Stroopwafels, for an extra-caramelly cookie. Stroopwafels are crisp waffle cookies that already have a thin layer of caramel inside. Add a layer of Coop’s between two Stroopwafels and you’re going to enter a dimension of caramel indulgence few have ever visited.
  1. Make a caramel milkshake. Yes, there’s ice cream in a milkshake. No, this is not just caramel on ice cream. Add a few scoops of your favorite flavor to a blender with a splash of milk and a generous drizzle of salted caramel sauce, then watch it whiz its way to milkshake perfection.
  1. Dessert fondue (it’s a thing). Step 1: Grab some festive party picks. Step 2: Cube up apples, pears, bananas, brioche, brownies, blondies, Cheddar cheese…whatever strikes your dessert fancy. Step 3: Dip to your heart’s content.
  1. Drizzle on poached pears. Pears poached in red wine is an elegant dessert. Drizzling those poached pears with salted caramel sauce takes it to the next level.
  1. Stir a spoonful into coffee. Change your mornings forever.
  1. Dip frozen slices of bananas in caramel sauce, then roll them in chopped nuts and freeze them.
  1. Baked Brie. Place a large wedge of Brie or a small round of Camembert on a piece of parchment paper (or in a little ceramic crock if you’re feeling snazzy). Drizzle salted caramel sauce on top, and bake at 350°F for 5-7 minutes, until the cheese begins to melt. Serve with an abundance of crackers or sliced bread.
  1. Mix with softened cream cheese for caramel frosting. Cakes, cookies, brownies: all will thank you.
  1. Mix into a slaw dressing. Add fish sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, soy sauce, minced ginger and chopped chilies with shredded cabbage, carrot, radish, scallion and cilantro for a sweet and spicy slaw dressing.
  1. Make a glaze for salmon. Mix salted caramel sauce with miso paste, soy sauce and rice vinegar, then drizzle over roasted salmon.
  1. Winner, winner, caramel chicken dinner. Thin your caramel out with hot water, add your favorite hot sauce, and serve with fried chicken. Finger lickin’ caramel goodness.
